Taste of India, in Tampa

Konkani Gotala

With few options for good Indian food in Tampa Bay, there are a few that shine; one of those being Taste of India right off of highway 275 and Fowler Avenue. The decor inside is genuine and food authentic. Wasn’t long before salivary glands start activating once surrounded with aromatic smells from the kitchen. Once seated, you’ll be presented with papadum and assorted chutneys to bide time while looking through extensive dishes.

Decided to start with Gobi Manchurian (mini cauliflower flowerets tossed with tomato, onion, bell pepper, garlic and green herbs smeared with hot and tangy sauce) as appetizer with Konkani Gotala (tofu, eggplant, round potatoes and carrots cooked in a coconut sauce, tempered with dried red chilies) as main dish. Both were equally amazing, taking a lot of discipline and pacing to eat slowly 🙂

While Taste of India has a variety meat and vegetarian options, there are plentiful menu items that can be vegan when avoiding anything with cheese, yogurt, and ghee (clarified butter). Definitely plan on trying the Punjabi Chana Masala or Balti Baigan on next trip.

Note: Careful, a trip can turn into instant carb-fest with assortments of naan breads (however well worth it)!

Taste of India is located at 1241 E. Fowler Ave. Tampa, FL 33612.
