This past weekend was the grand re-opening of Duckweed Urban Market in their new, larger residence at the bottom of the Element apartments in downtown Tampa. Not a far relocation from the quaint, smaller storefront just two blocks up next to the Hub on Polk Street. The improved spacious layout provides more ways to navigate through some great local products, organic produce, very healthy beer & wine selections, a juice bar, and indoor/outdoor seating.
Fair to say Duckweed is probably downtown’s first actual grocery store, stocking some pedestrian creature comforts such as Lucky Charms cereal and Pringles. However, they not only stock some local delights from the likes of Buddy Brew and Le Mouton Noir, but also harder-to-find vegan delicacies like Miami-based Elianni (featured on many VeganMint recipes).
My favorite find of the day, Vegan ‘Nacho Mom’s’ Queso! Not only have I avoided cheese-dip in the last 15 years, no additives and only 10 calories per serving, SCORE! Speaking on behalf of Tampa bay vegans and health nuts, we welcome Duckweed Urban Market to downtown and embrace their effort to keep it fresh and ever so vegan-minty 🙂
